Lucas Fraser, Lawyer

Lucas Fraser was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. He is a proud member of the Middle River Fraser clan, and Point Aconi Leblanc family, he has familial connections all over this little piece of paradise we call Cape Breton. Born the eldest of four sons to a local fisherman and laboratory technician, his parents from an early age instilled the value of hard work into him.

Lucas attended St. Francis Xavier University, graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Honours with Distinction. He was an active member of campus life at St. FX, working in Residence Life as a Residence Assistant and Hall Director. At the end of his studies in 2017, Lucas' hard work while attending St. FX was recognized when he was one of approximately 100 students to be inducted into the President's Circle of Young Alumni.

Following his undergraduate degree, Lucas attended the University of New Brunswick School of Law, graduating in the spring of 2020. During his time at UNB, Lucas was the co-Chair of the Speakers Hour Committee, which was responsible for hosting notable speakers each week, including Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General for New Brunswick Andrea Anderson-Mason, Former Chief Justice of Canada Beverley McLachlin and Dalhousie University Law Professor Adelina Iftene.

Lucas specialized in Aboriginal Law; was a member of the Kawaskimhon moot team [translated in Cree language means "to speak with knowledge"] and had the opportunity to wrote a thesis titled: "Modern Day Residential Schools: Indigenous Over-Incarceration, Mesa’latl Theory and the Path Forward".

Following his graduation from UNB Law in 2020, Lucas commenced his Articles with the Portside Law Team in August of 2021 and he joined Portside Law LLP as an Associate Lawyer following his call to the Bar.

Lucas takes a very client centred approach to his practice and he goes above and beyond to ensure his clients get the help they deserve. He takes the time to get to know his clients and he advocates for them to ensure that the job is done right.

When Lucas is not in the office, you would likely find him volunteering in the community, cheering on his favourite sports teams, the Blue Jays and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, curled up on the couch with a good book or spending time with his parents, Curtis and Lori, and their dog Jax.
