J. Daniel MacDonald, Lawyer

Dan MacDonald’s road to the practice of law has been one less travelled. After enjoying a long and distinguished career in marine operations, training and education with Transport Canada and the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Dan decided to pursue a law degree in 2001. Four years and child number three later, he was admitted to the Nova Scotia bar.

The focus of Dan’s practice lies mainly in the areas of criminal law, property law, administrative law, employment law and marine law. Dan has extensive experience in International Relations with involvement in a wide range of initiatives throughout the maritime world including marine infrastructure work plan development under NAFTA, numerous technical cooperation and development initiatives under the aegis of the International Maritime Organization, a number of other marine operations and port development initiatives in addition to a five-year involvement in a Mid-East Peace Process, Track-Two diplomatic mission, known as MarSaf.

Dan’s practice philosophy is centered on attentive and responsive client service. He makes it a priority to offer practical solutions to his client’s legal problems and while he appreciates the importance of the adversarial system of litigation, he acknowledges the value of alternative dispute resolution as a cost-effective response to a wide range of legal issues.
